The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has adopted a stringent position against the spread of misleading information and defamation targeting the Argentina national team and its footballers on social media and various platforms, particularly in the context of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, AFA is preparing to initiate necessary legal proceedings, including defamation lawsuits, against individuals and entities involved in disseminating false accusations, manipulated or misleading images, and various unsubstantiated claims targeting the players and the team.

It has been reported that beyond mainstream media, accounts deliberately spreading false information across various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, are also under scrutiny. Efforts are underway to identify the relevant posts and accounts to bring them under the purview of legal action.

Meanwhile, AFA’s legal department has commenced the collection of evidence, preservation of contentious content, and preparation of essential documentation. The association has declared that any deliberate dissemination of false information intended to tarnish the reputation of the national team and its footballers will not be tolerated whatsoever, and legal measures will be enforced against those responsible.
