Naseeruddin Patwari, chief coordinator of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), stated that the BNP is implementing the constitution defying the public mandate. He added that no sustainable political change is possible in the country without necessary state reforms.

He made these remarks at a public meeting organized by the district NCP at Kurigram Central Shaheed Minar on Wednesday (July 22) afternoon. Earlier, a procession was held in the city as part of the ‘July Awakening for Nation Building’ program.

At the public meeting, Naseeruddin Patwari severely criticized the BNP, stating, ‘Those accused in the murders of people who sacrificed their lives in the ’24 movement are being released in exchange for money. Preferred individuals have been appointed to tribunals to protect the killers. Banks, educational institutions, and even mosque committees are being taken over.’

He further stated, ‘We had said that extortion and terrorism would no longer continue in Bangladesh, standing on the blood of Abu Sa’eed. But that dream has been shattered.’

Referring to constitutional and state reforms, the NCP leader said, ‘Attempts are being made to implement Sheikh Hasina’s constitution, the Mujibist constitution, and the Indian agenda, going against the referendum aspirations of 70 percent of the country’s people.’

Addressing the BNP, he said, ‘Many have grown wings by calculating 200 seats. But we want to make it clear that if reforms do not take place in Bangladesh, those wings will be broken.’

Also speaking at the meeting were Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of NCP; Sarjis Alam, Coordinator for the Northern Region; Dr. Atiqur Rahman Mujahid, Member of Parliament for Kurigram-2 constituency and Joint Convener of NCP; and other local leaders.

Earlier in the afternoon, the ‘July Awakening for Nation Building’ procession commenced from the Independence Victory Monument Square at College More in Kurigram district town. After parading through various city streets, the program concluded with a public meeting at the Central Shaheed Minar.
